The first book in a series by Jasper Fforde, this book is a somewhat humourous combination alternate history/science fiction/action adventure and real literature. Centering around Thursday Next, a "Literatec"...Literature Detective...whose department is in charge of policing the world of literature... detecting fake manuscripts, stolen originals, etc., she works in the London division of Special Operations, "Spec Ops". When the original of Jane Eyre is stolen, she must get it back. It is not necessary to have read or to read Jane Eyre as a summary is given in the book. It is available on audio in audible and on kindle. Warning: It is adult... a bit of adult language, no sex but there is romance. A good summer read for what's left of the summer...
Questions for Jasper Fforde's book, "The Eyre Affair".
1. What some of the main themes in the book? 2. Why does Thursday have a difficult time forgiving Landen? 3.What are some examples of characters doing the right thing? 4. Who/What is cast as evil and why? 5. Thursday is cast as the hero of an historical event that occurred during the Crimean War. It was commemorated by Alfred, Lord Tennyson in the poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade." Have you previously encountered the poem or event? 5. Did you enjoy the humor in the book? Share some examples.
